Tendring District

The Tendring District  covers an area of approximately 33,740 hectares (83,373 acres) in North East Essex between the estuaries of the rivers Stour and Colne.

The District has a coastline extending to greater than 60km (38 miles) and all the major towns are situated along this coastal strip.  Many of the coastal areas are dependent on sea defences to protect property and infrastructure.

The estuaries and tidal backwaters form a natural habitat, recognised both nationally and internationally, for a variety of flora and fauna, especially birds.

The inland area comprises both large and small villages and has a distinct ‘Rural Feel’ to it
